The National Cherry Festival may be Northern Michigan’s biggest annual event, but there’s always something going on no matter when you visit Traverse City. Between local farmer’s markets, fairs and seasonal festivals, there’s an event for everyone.
- Blossom Day (May)
Experience the best newly released wines from the wineries of Old Mission Peninsula. Guests can enjoy food pairings, winemaking demonstrations and, of course, a gorgeous view of the cherry blossom trees in bloom.
- National Cherry Festival
Voted the #3 Best Specialty Food Festival by the readers of USA Today and 10Best, the week-long National Cherry Festival has been around since 1926 and draws more than half a million visitors every year. Featuring 150 events and activities—most of which are free—this festival is perfect for families, foodies and cherry-enthusiasts in general.
- Northwestern Michigan Fair (Aug)
Since 1908, the Northwestern Michigan Fair has brought together family fun and local agriculture. Celebrate the end of Summer with domestic and exotic animal showcases, contests, amusement rides and grandstand racing events such as supercross and lawnmower racing.
- Fall Color Tour (Sep-Oct)
Enjoy this free, self-guided tour of Old Mission and Leelanau peninsulas’ beautiful fall colors during peak season.
- GLSDA’s Icedog Sled Dog Race (Feb)
Admission is free for this fun family event. Cheer on sled dogs and their mushers at Cherry Raceway and enjoy a raffle, food pavilion and bon fire.
- Suds & Snow (Mar)
Visitors 21 and up will enjoy this festival featuring over 12 craft breweries, local food vendors, live music and a ½ mile snowshoe hike.

Kick off the holiday season in downtown Traverse City with an appearance from Santa at the Holiday Open House & Tree Lighting (Dec) or ring in the new year with the New Year’s Eve CherryT Ball Drop—a new year’s eve celebration benefiting charity.
